Tell us a little bit about the story behind Floren Studio
Floren Studio is run by myself and my partner, Nick. I’m an experienced Floral Designer with over 15 years of experience under my belt and Nick has a background in Marketing. We moved down to Devon a few years ago and started up Floren Studio which originally only focussed on weddings and events but in August 2021 we opened our beautiful little shop in Topsham. We love what we do and the mix of both of our talents have enabled us to build a creative business where we help couples build their dream wedding flowers.
What services do you offer?
For weddings we offer the whole package! We initially start the process with a complimentary bespoke proposal for our couples and we take care of everything floral wise. In the run up we offer consultations, face to face and over the phone as well as venue visits if extra help is needed! We often invite our couples into our shop to see, smell and feel the flowers which can really help them get an idea of their proposed wedding flowers.
On the day we set up designs on site, offer a moving service where we stay on site to move any larger designs after the ceremony and a clear down service the next day.
No request is too big or small and once we are on your team we are here anytime you need us.
Describe your signature floral style?
My style is very organic, wild, natural and luxurious. Our signature style is to include a variety of foliages and greenery which is then complimented by larger luxury blooms and smaller daintier flowers for a natural look. We try to mirror nature’s wild and organic look as best as possible while offering our floral designs and installations as eco-friendly as possible to try and preserve that very nature around us.
We also love creating installations for our couples, whether that be archways for your ceremony or clouds of flowers to eat under for your wedding breakfast!
Describe a typical day of a wedding florist
On the day of a wedding we start very early! In the morning we will be up at the crack of dawn finishing off any delicate wiring for buttonholes and crowns etc. It’s then time to load up the van with all the flowers, foliages, toolboxes, ladder and anything else we need on site.
What are you most looking forward to when it comes to working in the wedding industry after lockdown restrictions are fully lifted?
We have really felt for couples who have been forced to postpone their weddings due to restrictions and lockdowns. For us the joy is our couples finally being able to have their day. After this long period of unpredictability, being able to have their day with their family and friends is what we are most looking forward to.
What floral trends do you predict for weddings in 2022 and beyond?
A trend that we are seeing grow is the more conscientious and sustainable way of working in the floral industry. It has been a hot topic among florists, flower growers and other sectors of the industry, and now I think it is trickling down to our couples. For us we are a foam free florist, meaning we don’t use floral foam (such as Oasis foam) in any of our designs, which is a single use plastic and when broken down is harmful to aquatic life. Along with trying to source our flowers as close to home as possible and if not using fair-trade growers to help us create designs in the most eco-friendly and sustainable way possible.
Where do you find the inspiration for your work / floral designs?
I find inspiration in the flowers and foliage themselves. I’m lucky enough to have a huge variety of flowers at my fingertips so each of my designs will be inspired by what flowers are in season.
What do you love most about being a wedding florist?
The flowers! Quite simply I adore flowers so being able to work with them every day makes me very happy. Tying that in with a couple’s happiest day is what I feel makes my job extra special.
